Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

On this page, you will find questions that instructors frequently ask us about e-exams.

I have no experience with online exams. How do I schedule an initial consultation?
We would be happy to schedule a consultation with you, show you our facilities, discuss the typical process for an online exam, and assist you with exam preparation. Please send us an email at epruefungen@uni-goettingen.de and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Can online exams be administered even if more than 110 examinees are expected?
With the launch of EPR II, the capacity per cohort for both e-exam rooms has increased to 210 participants. If there are more than 210 participants, multiple exam sessions (cohorts) will be held. With two cohorts, only one exam version is required, as it is possible to reliably prevent exam participants from the two groups from encountering each other during the cohort change. Only when there are multiple exam sessions should an A and a B exam be created. In exceptional cases, and provided the computer labs in the Blue Tower are not otherwise occupied, these may also be used, thereby further increasing capacity. This entails a greater need for proctors and staff to provide technical support for the rooms. The e-exam team handles the booking of the CIP pools. This entails a greater need for proctors and staff to provide technical support for the rooms.

I've finished the exam in ILIAS. What's the next step?
Please contact us proactively via email so that we can verify that the exam is technically sound. We are unable to review the content of the exam. We will then ensure that the test, settings, and questions have been configured correctly. Especially during periods of high traffic (e.g., exam periods), this step may need to be completed on short notice. You can assist us by creating the exam in ILIAS well in advance.

Are participants allowed to leave the room before the end of the official exam time if they finish early and another session is scheduled to follow?
Within reasonable limits—namely, the officially announced exam duration and the time required to ensure the proper and supervised completion of the exam for a given cohort—students must remain in the room to prevent any collusion regarding the exam content among members of the cohort. Digital archiving allows the period for immediate review to be limited to a maximum of 10 minutes. This does not, of course, apply to cases of hardship, which must be clarified with the exam administrators before the exam begins.

I have specific technical requirements for taking my exam (e.g., virtual machines). How do I communicate this to the e-exam team?
We ask that you inform us of these essential requirements for conducting your exam in a timely manner, preferably when you submit your exam request. To this end, we have created a software catalog that lists the software we provide and its versions. In addition, we would like to point out that it is necessary to test the applications in advance to ensure that the e-exam runs smoothly on the day of the exam. You can find more information here.

What is the process for reviewing exam papers?
If you would like to offer a review of an e-exam that took place on our premises, this is typically arranged by sending a request for an appointment to our service email address (epruefungen@uni-goettingen.de). Upon confirmation from us, we will send you a form to fill out, in which you can provide us with the names of the participants and any other requirements (e.g., permitted applications). We kindly ask that you return the completed form to us no later than two days before the exam review date to help us with our preparations.
