Teaching

We offer a broad variety of lectures and courses. Our teaching philosophy is to combine teaching and research, and involve motivated students early in research projects. We are convinced that a good natural history overview is the backbone of conservation biology. Sound taxonomic expertise will remain important, and we offer several courses that help students to acquire species identification skills.

The Department of Conservation Biology heads up the binational M.Sc. programme International Nature Conservation (MINC) and contributes extensively to teaching in the M.Sc. programme Biodiversity: Ecology, Evolution and Conservation (BEEC) and the B.Sc. programme Biological Diversity and Ecology.

We offer annual field trips of ca. 10 to 21 days duration. Destinations in recent years have included NW Germany, Cameroon, India and North Macedonia/Greece. We supervise a considerable number of MSc and BSc theses annually.
