SaLtedPeat
SaLtedPeat project aims to pioneer the timely exploration of the impacts of SLR, particularly salinization, on coastal forested peatlands of SE Asia. Within this project, the historical relation between SLR and severe fire occurrences in SE Asian coastal peatlands using long-term ecological studies will be explored (WP1); the contemporary land-sea gradients in peatlands will be analyzed through field observations (WP2); and the impact of SLR-related salinization on peatland vegetation and peat physicochemical properties will be mimicked through manipulative experiments (WP3). The project will also model the overall changes in peatland properties and C stocks following SLR and projected precipitation changes, providing essential knowledge for carbon management, biodiversity conservation, and air-pollution mitigation.
SaLtedPeat is funded by the ERC Starting Grant (2025) and will run until January 2031.
