Ecumenism in Portraits / Ecumenical portraits on the move

A wide variety of portraits are currently hanging in the foyer of the Faculty of Theology. These are not just pictures, but concise biographies of different men and women from different contexts and times. They all have one thing in common: they have played or are still playing a role in the history of the ecumenical movement.

These large, colorful posters are the result of a course from last semester attended by 15 master-students in the program “Intercultural Theology.” The seminar was offered by Professor Wasmuth. The students were free to choose which people were important to them and often represent their own cultural background in the ecumenical world. And so, they inform us about a wide variety of personalities: for example, Pope John XXIII now hangs next to Chiara Lubich and Professor Chung Hyung Kyung.

However, before the posters could take their place in the foyer, they went on a little journey. They were also exhibited in the University Church of St. Nikolai. As part of the semester opening and the launch of the bachelor's program in Intercultural Theology, the posters provided an insight into the work of last semester's master’s students.

Now they have arrived at the Theologicum and can be viewed by visitors, teachers, and students. If you are interested in gaining this insight, please feel free to visit the foyer of the Theologicum and be surprised by the diversity of the “ecumenical team” that has worked and continues to work together to achieve visible unity among the churches in the world.
