As part of the German Climate Foundation’s student competition, Dr. Simon Drollinger and Dr. Christina Hackmann supervised the research question: “How can we make our forests resilient to climate change?”
During Future Day, Dr. Simon Drollinger and Prof. Alexander Knohl supervised students from grades 5 to 8.
At Forum Wissen, Dr. Anne Klosterhalfen and Dr. Christina Hackmann gave a talk on the topic of water stress.
At this event hosted by the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony, three researchers, including Prof. Alexander Knohl, presented findings from forest research followed by a discussion with the audience.
At the University of Göttingen’s Children’s University, the department delivered the interactive lecture “Forests in a Warming World.”

In 2024, the exhibition “Digital Forest – A Virtual Journey into Climate Research” moved from Forum Wissen to the visitor center of Hainich National Park. There, visitors could use virtual reality to learn how the effects of drought on forests are studied.
As part of the FoResLab project, a forest excursion was held with Green Party local politicians and the ZKfN.

At the Beech Conference 2023, Alexander Knohl presented current research findings on the consequences of summer drought in Hainich National Park.
Inspired by climate change research, Antonio Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” was reinterpreted by Prof. Dr. Mark Barden (Professor of Composition, Detmold University of Music) and composition students Carlo Tosato, Zara Ali, and Daniel Kalantari. Between the four movements, Alexander Knohl, Anne Klosterhalfen, Franziska Koebsch, and Christian Markwitz explained current findings on the impacts of climate change on the four seasons and how these changes influenced the new composition.
At the Night of Knowledge in Göttingen, Anne Klosterhalfen, Andre Ringeler, and Franziska Koebsch presented bioclimatological measurement instruments and current research findings.
In an episode of the University of Göttingen video series, Marius Heidenreich and Franziska Koebsch presented the Hainich research site and explained the Digital Forest project.
Anne Klosterhalfen and Franziska Koebsch led an excursion to the Hainich research site and discussed with forestry experts from the Forest Expert Program how forests are developing in the face of increasing droughts.
NDR Info interviewed Prof. Alexander Knohl and Dr. Christian Markwitz about the effects of the 2018 drought year.
