Programme structure of M.Sc. Developmental, Neural, and Behavioral Biology
This is an overview of the study structure. For details about the modules available for each section and their content, please refer to the List of Modules.
As of October 2026, the new Examination and Study Regulations and List of Modules are valid.
I. Core Studies (60 C)
- 3 Core Modules (each 12 C)
- 2 Advanced Modules (each 12 C, 7-9 week labrotation)
Mind: Prerequisite for entering the Advanced Modules is passing the respective Core Module (see module description in List of Modules).
II. Area of Professionalisation (30 C)
- Profile Module (12 C):
- Additional Core Module,
- a Core Module from the Master's programme Molecular Life Sciences: Microbiology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry or
- a module of the Master's programme Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution.
- SK.Bio.331 (12 C): Research internship (application form)
- If authorised by the examination committee modules from other faculties or »assembled modules« (max 3 modules).
- On request without grading (see document "Application Final Certificate").
- Elective Modules (6 C) (no grading in final certificate):
- programme specific modules (see List of Modules)

- Key Competencies (12 C):
- M.Bio.331 Scientific Project Management (compulsory)
- programme specific modules (see List of Modules, incl. self organized laboratory projects or professional internship)

III. Master Thesis (30 C)
- 26 weeks
- Prerequisite is successful completion of at least 78 C of modules within the program including both Advanced Modules and M.Bio.331.
