Information on the General Data Protection Regulation pursuant to Article 13 (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679) regarding the collection of personal data
Regarding Art. 13(1)(a) and (b):
The data controller responsible for the collection and processing of personal data pursuant to Art. 4 No. 7 GDPR is the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, a public law foundation (excluding the University Medical Department), Wilhelmsplatz 1, 37073 Göttingen, represented by the current President [hereinafter: University of Göttingen]. The specific data processing departments are Göttingen International and the Department of Academic Affairs.
The Data Protection Officer of the University of Göttingen is Prof. Andreas Wiebe, LL.M. (Virginia), Platz der Göttinger Sieben 6, 37073 Göttingen, Email: datenschutz@uni-goettingen.de.
Regarding Art. 13(1)(c):
The collection of personal data is necessary as part of the application process for external/international students applying for virtual courses offered by the University of Göttingen. The collected data enables the selection of student applicants for specific virtual learning programs. The data collection also supports reporting to funding institutions such as the National Agency DAAD and the European Commission.
Regarding Art. 13(1)(e):
The personal data will be further processed, usually by internal organizational units of the University of Göttingen. The data serves as the basis for a selection process to participate in specific virtual course offerings. Personal data of nominated individuals will be forwarded to the responsible office/faculty or teaching staff offering the selected virtual course. This step initiates a registration for the virtual learning opportunity.
The data is processed by the departments Göttingen International and Academic Affairs, as well as within the responsible faculty. Anonymized data will be used for statistical analysis by entities such as the university’s executive board, the funding institutions (DAAD or the EU Commission), or public authorities such as state ministries. The data of applicants will be stored for up to one year. In any case, personal data will be deleted as soon as it is no longer needed. Wherever possible, data will be anonymized.
Regarding Art. 13(2)(d):
The data subject has the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The supervisory authority responsible for the University of Göttingen is the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony, Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, Email: poststelle@lfd.niedersachsen.de.
Regarding Art. 13(2)(e):
Providing the data may be mandatory. You will be informed of this in each individual case.

Regarding Art. 6(1)(b):
Data processing occurs at the request of the data subject (in this case: application for a virtual course). In the case of a successful application, the data serves to initiate formal registration for a virtual course offered by an external/international partner university.
