Raghvendra Agrawal receives the DAAD Prize for outstanding international students

Raghvendra Agrawal, a Master’s student from India studying at the University of Göttingen, has been awarded this year’s prize for outstanding international students by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Agrawal is in his fourth semester of the Master’s programme in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and is also involved in a genomic research project at the University of Göttingen. The jury recognised his academic excellence and his exceptional commitment. The prize is worth 1,000 euros.

During his studies, Agrawal took the initiative to apply to take part in the research project. He independently developed and established a new analytical method and successfully completed the project in a remarkably short time. He will be a co-author when the results are published in a scientific publication.

As a former treasurer and the future president of the Indian Association of Göttingen (NIRMITI), he organises cultural events, promotes networking within the Göttingen community and supports international students. He has also been an active member of the International Student Council (ISC).

“Raghvendra Agrawal very clearly demonstrates how academic excellence and social responsibility can go hand in hand,” says Dr Heinrich Hagel, Head of the Incoming Office at Göttingen University’s International Office. “His initiative, willingness to help and exceptional commitment to the international community, serve to enrich the University both inside and outside the academic setting.”

Scholarships for their outstanding commitment were also awarded to the Göttingen students Sekar Yunita, a PhD student in forestry economics and sustainable land use; Mubashar Ali, a Master’s student in chemistry; and Vipul Chawla, a Master’s student in development economics.
