If between panels you find yourself with some extra time on your hand, or you are simply looking for some pointers on what Göttingen has to offer, here are some suggestions:

Germany is known to be full of vibrant plant life, so is it any wonder that Germans love to go on hikes? If this is something you wish to experience these places offer great destinations for a leisurely stroll:

  • Enjoy a lovely walk around the city on the medieval city wall; the fortifications date from the 14th century.
  • The Old Botanical Garden of the university offers a wide variety of plants as well as a cafe, all while being barely 10 minutes away from the conference site!.
  • The Schillerwiesen, a late 19th century landscape park named after Friedrich Schiller, to the east of the city centre, boast of a stream, historic pavilion, fountain, playground and nearby minigolf and tennis possibilities.
  • The Kiessee lies south of the city and offers a stunning walkaround of the lake, as well as the possibility to rent boats and playgrounds.

  • With nearly 30.000 students, Göttingen is a very young city and offers plenty of opportunities for a jolly evening out. Göttingen’s most traditional “Studentenkneipe” (a pub frequentend by students) is the “Trou” in Burgstraße, an old vault, known for its strawberry-infused beer.
  • If you are into cakes, don’t miss out on the town’s most famous café “Cron und Lanz” in Weenderstraße, with a great selection of elaborate cakes and its speciality “Baumkuchen”.
